In the Nook…
We went camping two weeks ago and had so much fun! For three years we’ve been planning to go back to our favorite campsite that we’ve ever found. It’s just outside of Mammoth Cave in Clay City, KY. The days were nice and warm, not muggy hot like usual, but the nights were sooo cold! My husband and I were up between 4-5 am building a fire to keep warm and start cooking breakfast. We stayed in tents with no water or electric and it really wasn’t that bad at all! I thoroughly enjoyed myself even if it was cold. We had a cave tour planned and paid for but ended up just getting a refund because the tour wasn’t scheduled until the evening hours and I knew with four girls that it would just be too much for the dinner hour and we wanted more to take them to the old guntown and skylifts, race cars, bumper cars, and much more … My husband and I figured out that the whole trip ended up costing us only around $200 total.
The first night after we got there we did order pizza from the Ranger Station just because we had lots of work to do with setting up the tents and unloading the car. The only other meal we ate out was for a pancake breakfast, all you can eat at that. It was wonderful and the girls ate more than I ever imagined at only $1.99 a person plus sausage! They got several really nice compliments on their good behaviour, which was very nice for us, seeing as only one of them was ours! The rest of the nights we cooked out over the fire…hot dogs, hamburgers, and one night I made a nice three course meal out of macaroni and cheese, smoked sausages, and sliced apples and cheese squares for dessert. Of course, we also had roasted (burnt for me please) marshmallows and smores. It was so much fun…did I mention that already? One thing I didn’t mention is that October at the park is Halloween month and Yogi Bear and BooBoo pay personal visits to all the campers! I love Yogi Bear! So, here are pictures for your enjoyment. I love the fire picture the most.
Mine and my husbands tent!

sleep together in that small tent. LOL
The best friends tent – Kelsey and Rachael!

Here are some real wild animals…JK girls

The trees above our campsite and a beautiful little squirrel…

Dinner’s Ready!!! That was actually the day we left and we let the fire burn down and watered really well!
Sorry for the long post, but I have been meaning to get those up sooner. If you’re in the Western part of KY just above Bowling Green then I’d highly recommend this campground…they have cottages and cabins; also accommodations for large groups! I have to share my favorite picture of all!
Ahhhh…the peace of sleeping sisters on the way home!
